School Board Vision

Backstory: As a student at Washington K-8, I didn't know Virginia Volker was a member of the school board. But I saw her a lot and knew she was somebody important. Mrs. Volker brought a community element to our school. Then there was my dad. In second grade, I wanted to be a Cub Scout. He became the school's Cub Scout leader and later Scoutmaster. He also took on numerous other roles (PTA president, basketball coach, mentor, father figure, etc).

So what does that have to do with my personal goals as a school board candidate? My answer. Everything.

I care about the youth. I care about Birmingham City Schools. I care about the community as a whole.

Despite never owning a car, I've spent the past nine years being this grassroots servant who finds a way to show up and help others. I've shown up to volunteer at schools, community events, awareness walks/races, etc. The playgrounds at Hemphill Elementary and South Hampton K-8? I helped with those projects too. When Alabama Possible hosted "cash for college" workshops for high school seniors? I went to every school they visited.

"Read Across America" in March? I'm usually found in classroom reading to the students. STAIR needed reading tutors? I signed up.

Despite working mostly restaurant jobs, I've taken my hard earn money and poured tons of it into the needs/wants of my mentees. Despite a pandemic shutting down the world, I risked my health by committing time to weekly serve at three mobile food pantries, Community Food Bank, Jimmie Hale Mission, Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank and several other places. Despite a pandemic shutting down the world, I sent out emails to speak up for the BCS student body.

Point is. I refuse to give potential voters a list of promises. I've never been the type to follow the crowd. What I can give, however, is a pure and honest me. I can show you glimpses of my service in the community and (most importantly) service as it relates to education.

If elected, I'm confident that I can be the best school board member you've ever seen.
